love, faith and other things

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.

recently i read a few books.

let me backtrack

my husband is christian, i am more spiritual – probably connect more with buddhism. after going to a retreat on buddhism and just life in general have been trying to connect to faith & spiritual things in life in a way that my husband can connect with also and a way where i feel true to who i want to be in this world.

so when i read these books, to me they were not about a specific religion (christianity) but rather about people who are deeply spiritual and happen to connect with christianity as their religion.

kisses from katie
a girl who goes to uganda as a volunteer one summer and at 19 (?) ends up moving there and becoming mother to 14 (13) girls, starting a ministry, giving work to women, and more.

i have had that book for a few years probably and waited to read it because i might have caught the next plane to uganda and joined her. instead i am now working on my own story.

love does
this one is many stories from this mans life about love and what it can do.

lastly – and this one I have yet to finish
interrupted, when Jesus wrecks your comfortable christianity

i started another one of her books a few year back (7 a mutiny against excess) and look forward to finishing it one day. so far i am enjoying this one too – in a very different way.

for me the bottom line is love, sharing it with the world, being present, and being open to whatever is placed in front of you – in the deepest most heartfelt way.

so back to that quote

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.

(corinthians something- sorry)

i aspire to this – it’s easier some days than others. some days i question where exactly love would go. i came across this quote and it definitely helps most of the time.

more recently – especially since our daughter arrived – i find myself taking lots of breaths and teying not saying anything when my first reaction comes during any moments of stress.
